HUERNIA

Dwarf African succulents quite similar to the starfish flowers (Stapelia). The leafless plants have finger-like stems about 3 inches in height, which are angled and covered with blunt, fleshy teeth or spines. Queer flowers appear at the base of young shoots. The oddities are often warty and always accompanied by an offensive odor, yet they are extremely interesting. Potting Mixture 6.

Huernia davigera {short description of image} Red-throated, yellow flowers.
Haernia hystrix Yellow flowers with red spines on each petal.
Hxernia penzigi Dark purple-~almost black flowers.
