I. holsti is closely related to garden balsam, but is a larger plant with lovely, spurred flowers which are 1 1/2 inches wide and bright scarlet in color.

By carefully planning the planting schedule, flowers maybe enjoyed until late in the fall, although the plant is naturally rally a summer blooming species.

Water daily, supply plenty of sun, and prune the plant severely in early spring.
