SQUILL (Scilla)

The scillas-an Eurasian genus-are principally known for a deep blue, very early-blooming little species, Scilla sibirica. Taller squills which flower later are also familiar sights in gardens and woodlands, but it is S. sibirica which makes the most desirable house specimen. At least a dozen should be planted in the same pot-23/2 inches deep and 2 inches apart. Rooting period, about six weeks.
