GUINEA HEN FLOWER (Fritillaria meleagris)

This is an Eurasian species much admired in gardens and naturalistic plantings for its large pendent bells which are curiously checkcred and veined. The type is maroon or purple, but there are white and yellow forms as well. Plant the bulbs 2 inches apart and 1 1/2 inches deep. Rooting period, about eight weeks.
